The UKTI DSO Security Directorate provides advice to homeland security, fire, police and commercial security sector companies to optimise government support for the UK’s unique and leading-edge UK industry. The security sector has seen a significant growth in world-wide market opportunities.
UKTI DSO supports UK companies with products and services in a diverse range of different areas, including:
- National security and external border management, across all environments.
- Protecting people, property, transport, ICT systems, other infrastructure and economic assets.
- Enabling effective crisis management in response to natural and civil emergencies.
- Providing security at major events.
- Providing protection against and decontamination from chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats.
- Fire engineering, active and passive fire protection and fire fighting.
- Emergency services’ management and control systems.
Our security team helps UK companies and the industry as a whole to pave the way for them to win business from overseas government and industry customers. The team aim to develop a clear understanding of the UK’s capability in military and civil security sectors.

- IFSEC ’09 – Meet the buyer event with delegations from 23 countries.
- GSA Singapore ’09 (DSO stand).

- DSEi 09 (HMS Mersey delegations).
- Agreement reached with HOSDB on UKTI DSO involvement in HOSDB 2010 – detailed planning underway.

- Formed sub-groups covering Marketing; Olympics; International Strategy; Wider Stakeholder Engagement.
- Agreed Security Directorate strategy.
- Agreed Security Directorate business plan.
- Agreed Security Directorate priority markets.
- Produced a SWOT analysis template for identifying key sporting events to target.
- Produced key marketing messages.
- Briefed overseas Embassies/High Commissions on UK security capability.
- Produced a list of key UK security contacts which could support DSO’s work.
- Produced a list of security-related training courses that might be of interest.
